STAFFORDSHIRE voters have chosen Conservative candidate Matthew Ellis to be their new Police and Crime Commissioner.

The election, which was a two horse race between Mr Ellis and Labour's Joy Garner, was won with the lowest turnout so far declared of 11.6 per cent.

Mr Ellis will make a declaration of Acceptance of Office on Monday November 19 and will take up office on Thursday November 22.

Staffordshire Police Chief Constable, Mike Cunningham, said: “I would like to welcome Matthew to the role of Police and Crime Commissioner for Staffordshire and look forward to forging a strong relationship as we work to keep the communities of Staffordshire safe and reassured.”
