The man, aged 31 and from Lye, suffered head injuries and was knocked out but was saved from the assault by a fancy dress party goer dressed as a caveman.

Dc John Horrobin, from West Midlands Police's major investigation team in Dudley, said: "There had been a fancy dress party at the Mitre Inn on that night and we are appealing to anyone that may have seen the victim on the night to come forward.

"The victim has little recollection of the attack and thankfully he will make a full recovery."

The incident took place on Saturday October 27, the victim left the pub at around 1.30am and was followed onto the street.

The shocking CCTV images show the moment the man was attacked and the arrival of unusual good samaritan who saved him from further injuries.
