A STOURBRIDGE sports club is inviting people to make waves in 2013 by making a New Year’s resolution to learn to kayak.

Volunteers from Stourbridge Arm Canoe Club are offering a ten-week course starting in February as an introduction to the water sport.

A series of ten one-hour training sessions will take place on Saturday evenings at Haden Hill Leisure Centre, starting on February 2.

The course will finish in April with a scenic trip along the canal in Stourbridge and a paddle on the River Severn.

The course is suitable for adults and juniors and costs £120 which includes skilled instruction, the use of kayaks and all equipment.

The fee also includes 14 months club membership which will give members access to club kit after the course for a small fee until they decide if kayaking is the sport for them.

Club secretary Stephen Masters said: “We are a friendly club and think this course will be a great way of opening our doors to new members who might be resolving to do something different in the New Year.

“Kayaking and canoeing doesn’t have to be an expensive sport and we hope that by giving people this introduction and use of our facilities we can get even more people involved.”

The club meets weekly from April to September at their canal basin clubhouse on the corner of Ashwood Park, Kinver Street, Wordsley, and at Haden Hill Leisure Centre in the winter months.

Volunteers also organise regular trips and outings throughout the year.
