Man charged after arrest by off-duty cop in Hagley

A MAN has been charged with burglary after he was challenged and arrested by an off-duty cop in Hagley.

The incident took place at around 11.20am on Monday February 4 when two men were spotted carrying a lawnmower from a property in Station Road.

The West Mercia Police officer detained a 25-year-old from Tipton, who was subsequently charged with burglary. He was released on police bail to appear before Redditch magistrates on Tuesday February 19.

The other man got into a van and drove off. A woman who was driving past followed the vehicle into Worcester Road but then lost sight of it as it headed towards Stourbridge.

The vehicle is described as a red Transit or Post Office-style van which had a roller-shutter door at the back.

Anyone with information should call Pc Keith Higgins at Hagley Police Station on the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
