TELEVISION baking star, Brendan Lynch, stopped off at Merry Hill to cast his eye over a selection of sweet treats.

The runner-up star of The Great British Bake Off, stepped from behind the kitchen counter and reversed roles to judge the centre’s Mummy Mornings’ Bake Off.

The group, which has just celebrated its fifth anniversary, meet each Tuesday in Eat Central and is one of the biggest toddler clubs in the Midlands.

And to mark the milestone, members were invited to don their aprons and whip up their best bakes.

And after taste testing eight creations, Brendan judged Halesowen mum Pauline Vaughan’s red velvet cake as the winning entry and presented her with a £50 Westfield Merry Hill gift card.

Kelly Reed, Merry Hill marketing manager, said: “It was wonderful to welcome Brendan to Kiddicare.

“He was as lovely as we expected and the mums were very excited to have their cakes and bakes judged by an expert like Brendan.

“The mums were also pleased that he said none of the cakes had a soggy bottom!”
