Joy as Kinver funeral director is reunited with stolen Rascal van
4:00pm Friday 23rd August 2013 in Local
A KINVER funeral director is overjoyed to have been reunited with his prized Bedford Rascal van that was stolen from outside a church last month.
The van was parked at St Benedict’s Church, Wombourne, where John Cumiskey Snr, head of masonry at Kinver Funeral Directors, was repairing a headstone on July 9.
He was distraught when he realised it was missing and feared it would be used for parts so he was relieved to hear police had found it abandoned in Sedgley on July 19.
But he will have to wait a couple of weeks until he is back in the driving seat as it is currently being repaired, at a cost of around £2,000.
His son and business partner John Cumiskey said: “They had broken the ignition and smashed the steering lock. There was a lifting arm that was missing and the radio was ripped out as well.”
Despite the damage, he said to say his father was pleased it had been recovered was “an understatement” and added: “It’s like he’s been reunited with his child. He’s had it about ten years, it’s like his baby.”
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said no arrests have been made but urged anyone with information to call 101, quoting incident number 588 of July 9, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
