Inquest opens into the death of Quarry Bank lorry crash victim
4:44pm Monday 16th September 2013 in Local
AN inquest has been opened into the death of a Stourbridge man killed when he was hit by a lorry in Quarry Bank.
Sartaj Aziz, aged 26, of Prescot Road, was pronounced dead at the scene after he was struck by the HGV in Thorns Road on August 20.
Black Country coroner Robin Balmain said at Smethwick Council House today (Monday September 16) that a police report stated Mr Aziz was being chased by another man at the time and he had ran out into the road.
The death of the father-of-two, who previously worked in the control room for Stourbridge taxi firm ABM, is being treated as manslaughter.
Garret Fitzpatrick, aged 27, from Brierley Hill, has been remanded in custody in connection with the incident and will face trial in February next year.
Mr Balmain released Mr Aziz’s body for burial and adjourned the matter until court proceedings have taken place.
