STOURBRIDGE has scooped another gold award in the annual Heart of England in Bloom awards.
The town has been awarded its sixth glittering top gong after triumphing in the competition, which encourages people to work together to make their communities blosssom.
Meanwhile Dudley Council was honoured with the Quadron Heart of England in Bloom grounds maintenance award for keeping Stevens Park in Wollescote and Mary Stevens Park in Stourbridge tidy.
Co-ordinator of the town’s Bloom efforts David Harcourt, who has steered Stourbridge to victory for the last nine years, was presented with the awards at a ceremony at Drayton Manor Hotel, Tamworth, on September 12.
He said of the town’s success: “I think Stourbridge has done a fantastic job considering some of the disruption we’ve ha d.”
And he praised the efforts of all town groups and volunteers who helped with the campaign, particularly newcomers Stourbridge College and the Ruskin Centre - and Green Street Tenants and Residents Association, who reprised their involvement in the initiative this year.
Stourbridge MP Margot James said she was “really pleased” to hear of the town’s latest victory and she added: “So many people put such a lot of effort into it each year.
“I’d like to pay special tribute to David Harcourt who has put so much back into the town - Stourbridge in Bloom is a good example of his sucess.”
