MOURNERS paid their last respects to the Stourbridge man killed when he was hit by a lorry in Quarry Bank.
The funeral of Sartaj Aziz took place yesterday (Wednesday September 18) at Ghausia Mosque in Lye.
Mr Aziz, aged 26, of Prescot Road, was struck by a HGV in Thorns Road on Tuesday August 20.
Shocked by the tragedy the borough’s Muslim community donated £4,000 to pay for the funeral and burial of the father-of-two, known as Taj, as his only close relative living locally is his mother who has been left utterly distraught.
Lye councillor Mohammed Hanif, who has liaised with Mr Aziz’s mother since his death, said around 120 people attended the funeral and burial at Brierley Hill Cemetery.
He said: “Sartaj had a good burial and I was really impressed with the turnout.
“The wider community has been very helpful and I’m really thankful to them on behalf on Sartaj’s mother.”
The death of Mr Aziz is being treated as manslaughter and Garret Fitzpatrick, aged 27, from Brierley Hill, has been remanded in custody in connection with the incident and will face trial early next year.
