SWIMMERS can learn how to save a life by taking part in a lifeguard course in Stourbridge next year.

Those who complete the course, run by the Royal Life Saving Society at the Crystal Leisure Centre, will obtain an official lifeguard qualification and a certificate.

Intensive sessions will run from January 6-10 from 2pm until 10.30pm, with an exam on Saturday 11 January.

Councillor Stuart Turner, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “This course is an excellent way of broadening the job prospects of our young people looking to become lifeguards, or for keen swimmers wishing to expand their skills in the pool.”

Participants must be over 16 and will be expected to take a 15 minute pre-arranged swimming test beforehand.

The course costs £240 and spaces must be pre-booked with a deposit of £50 paid to secure a place on the day of the swim test.

The remaining balance must be paid before the first day of the course.
