SOUTH Staffordshire MP Gavin Williamson has written to schools in Kinver urging them to take part in the Speaker’s School Council Awards.

The awards, run by Parliament’s Education Service on behalf of the Speaker, launched earlier this month and to take part school or student councils must highlight how one of their projects has made a difference in their area.

Mr Williamson said: "I think this awards is a wonderful idea. So many of our local schools participate in community projects on a regular basis and it would be great to see them achieve the national recognition that they deserve."

Winning councils will be invited to Parliament to attend an awards ceremony in the Speaker’s Apartments, where they will be presented with a trophy by the Speaker.

Every school that enters will receive a certificate from the Speaker and a web badge.

The deadline for entries is April 30.
