FORMER England batsman Mike Gatting will roll up his sleeves and get stuck in to some DIY when he visits Pedmore Cricket Club next month.

The club is taking part in NatWest CricketForce, an annual initiative that runs from April 5-6 and encourages communities to chip in and prepare the country's cricket grounds for the season ahead.

This year, Pedmore has been chosen as one of the showcase clubs that will benefit from a helping hand from the well-known cricket personality, who will stop by on Sunday April 6.

Club chairman, Roger Price, said: "There's a whole host of jobs that he can get involved in. We are putting up new fencing, which will need painting and we will need to clean around the outskirts of the grounds, cut the hedges and erect safety nets."

Mr Price added: "Mike's visit has generated a huge amount of interest and we have had lots of offers from people willing to help out over the weekend. The club sees this as a once in a lifetime opportunity .

"It's a chance to make people aware of the club, raise the profile, increase membership and helpers and consequently ensure the future of the club for many years to come."
