STOURBRIDGE shoppers can bask in a bit of nostalgia this Saturday when the Ryemarket Centre celebrates its 40th anniversary.

To mark the occasion, local store Miss Poppy's has created a five tier cake which has been bedecked with photographs taken of the centre over the years.

Miss Poppy's will also be staging a cup cake workshop from 10am until 4pm when children will be able to decorate their own cakes.

Centre mascot Ryely Mouse will be out and about to greet and meet shoppers along with a clown on stilts, while youngsters can enjoy a spot of balloon modelling

Centre manager Kelley Dyas, who is also secretary of the Chamber of Trade claimed: "There's been a great deal of change since the Ryemarket opened in 1974. Obviously we've gone through a very difficult climate of late, but the Ryemarket is now in the best shape it's been in the seven years I've been here.

"We've built up a large and loyal following and rebranded the Ryemarket which seems to have given the centre a new lease of life.

"I'm from Stourbridge myself and remain pro-active with anything that will being people into the town".

DID you know Waitrose are the only original tenants since the Ryemarket opened in 1974!
