HISTORY fans are invited to take a close-up look at an archaeological dig taking place at an old Stourbridge glassworks turned educational centre.

The former Webb Corbett site, now Glasshouse College and Ruskin Arts Centre, in Amblecote is currently being excavated ahead of a £1million revamp - and members of the public can pop along this weekend to see archaeologists in action.

The digs, taking place on the car park and courtyard areas, will be open from 10am to midday on Saturday March 22 and Sunday March 23 for former Webb Corbett employees and history enthusiasts to view the sites and meet archaeologists from Nexus Heritage who will be on hand to answer questions about the excavations.

Experts from the Cheshire-based heritage consultancy firm have been at the Wollaston Road site since February 17 - working with volunteers, Amblecote Primary School, St James's Primary School and Dudley Youth Offending Team.
