MORRISONS has been given the go-ahead to build a bigger and better supermarket in Kingswinford.
The existing food store and petrol station, off Stallings Lane, is to be demolished and replaced with a larger, purpose-built store – including a customer cafe, larger car park and new petrol station and car wash – after Dudley planners granted approval at Monday’s development control committee meeting.
The development, which will comprise a new 5,932 square metre store and 379-space car park, will provide up to 368 permanent jobs.
Committee members were told the existing store is an old Safeway outlet and not built to the requirements of Morrisons which needs more space for warehousing, fresh food preparation, a customer cafe and to provide appropriate staff and office space.
The improved outlet will include wider aisles, extra shelf space to allow the store to stock a full range of items, extra checkouts to cut queues and a larger petrol station to help tackle the problem of queuing cars.
