STOURBRIDGE MP Margot James is to hold a public meeting to gather views on the future of the vandal-hit Longlands site.

Open to residents and interested parties concerned about the old Brook Street school site, the meeting will be held at Greenfield Primary School, Hill Street, on Friday July 4 at 6pm.

The Conservative MP has stepped in to stage the event as people living near the old school and art college site, which is owned by Birmingham Metropolitan College, have become increasingly concerned about security following a series of vandal attacks including a fire on April 11.

Ms James said: "I hope the meeting will give everyone involved a voice on the future of Longlands.

"The buildings are in a poor state and security at the site is an ongoing problem which puts the public at risk and is an ongoing concern.

"On a positive note the site has huge potential for new homes and there is a large amount of land which could also be brought in to use by children and the wider community for sports and leisure activities."

Dudley Council officers and councillors, police, college bosses and Greenfield headteacher Peter Bravo will also be attending the meeting - which comes weeks after resident John Milner set up a Facebook group 'Get something done about the Longlands Site' on which people have posted an array of suggestions as to how the site can be developed or used by the community.
