A MOTORCYCLIST was trapped under the wheels of a car after a serious smash near Dudley.

New Birmingham Road is currenlty closed from the Burnt Tree trafflic lights to Regent Road, Tividale, following the three-vehicle collision involving a Vauxhall Vectra, a Volkswagon Beetle and a motorcycle at 11.46am today (Wednesday).

Ambulance crews arrived to find the male motercyclist trapped under the front wheels of a car.

Firefighters lifted the car off the patient, who had suffered serious chest, pelvic, abdominal and leg injuries.

The male, believed to be in his 30s, received emergency treatment at the scene and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said his injuries are considered life threatening.

A female passenger in the Beetle, believed to be in her early 20s, suffered a minor head injury and complained of shoulder pain.

She was taken to Russells Hall Hospital for further treatement.

Collision investigators are currently at the scene and the road is expected to be closed for a couple of hours.
