STOURBRIDGE people have been warned about the perils of walking along railway lines this week.
Network Rail has joined forces with British Transport Police to issue residents with letters after an increasing number of people have been reported either walking along or crossing railway lines.
Police are now planning increased patrols and have warned culprits they could face a fine of up to £1,000.
They have also asked residents to report anyone they see on the line by calling 0800 40 50 40 or texting information to 61016.
British Transport Police spokesman Brian Price said: "People have been using the railway line as a short cut, but they are putting their lives in danger. Around 60 trespassers a year are killed by trains and people must realise they are putting themselves at huge risk.
"The last thing we want to be doing is knocking on people's doors to tell them someone has been seriously injured or even worse."
