A STOURBRIDGE teenager is set to act as an ambassador for a national organisation after winning a prestigious award.
Benjamin Gray, aged 15, from Compton Road, Pedmore represented West Midlands County in the St. John Ambulance Cadet of the Year Awards at a weekend of events in Nottingham from January 12 to 14.
He competed against cadets from 42 counties and won the title of Deputy National Cadet of the Year, meaning he will represent the emergency medics at events around the country including award ceremonies, charity balls and competitions.
Steven Liggins, county staff officer for cadets, said: "Dedicated St John Ambulance cadets, such as Benjamin, prove that young people can and do make a positive contribution to their local communities and are an outstanding credit to the organisation and their families.
"Benjamin's achievement makes it four years in a row that West Midlands County have been successful at the event."
Cadets, aged between 15 and 17, were assessed on skills such as initiative, leadership and interpersonal communication.
Along with a trophy and certificate, Ben received a grant his St John Ambulance division, Stourbridge Quadrilateral.
Ben said: "I have had a really amazing weekend and it was one of the best things that I have ever done."
Steven said: "Being a cadet of the year opens up some tremendous opportunities."
