A STOURBRIDGE postman who failed to deliver has been sentenced after an investigation found nearly 4,000 leaflets left in a bin.
Andrew John Pitt, from Dumcombe Street, Wollaston, admitted intentionally delaying a total of 3,968 items during August and September last year.
On Monday January 8, Pitt, aged 35, was given three concurrent 12-month community orders and instructed to pay £100 costs plus £286 compensation.
A Royal Mail spokesperson said: "It came to light when we were informed some items were dumped in wheelie bins.
"We made enquires which took us back to this postman, the undelivered items were unaddressed leaflets.
"The majority of postal staff are hard working and deliver the mail on time, in the rare cases where they don't we do everything we can to stamp it out."
Pitt, who was convicted on three charges, was instructed to carry out 60 hours unpaid work as a condition of his punishment, he has also been dismissed as a postman.
Magistrates gave him a reduced sentence in recognition of his guilty plea.
