A STOURBRIDGE security guard involved in a high speed police chase as two young frightened girls in the back of his car begged him to stop, has swerved jail.

"You drove like an idiot and I am convinced you were showing off," Recorder Keith Raynor told Mohammed Tamor.

"You were trying to look cool behind the wheel."

He said the 22-year-old had driven fast as he was weaving in and out of traffic while his frightened passengers pleaded with him to pull over and let them out of his Renault Clio.

There was an obvious risk to his driving, said the recorder, who added at Wolverhampton Crown Court, "This was an idiotic piece of driving."

Tamor, of Vicarage Road, admitted dangerous driving and he was given a six month jail term suspended for a year.

He was ordered to carry out 150 hours unpaid work, disqualified from driving for a year and told he must obey a two month curfew order between the hours of 8pm and 6am.

Mark Rees, prosecuting, said the two girls who had been given a lift by Tamor described him as driving at around 80mph and 90mph as he overtook and "dodged" other vehicles.

He then drove across the front of a police patrol car before pulling away at about 60mph and the officers gave chase with Tamor forcing other road users to swerve and take action to avoid a collision.

The officers were forced to abandon the pursuit for safety reasons, said Mr Rees, but a short time later Tamor who was seen to go through a red light was spotted by his car. along with the two girls who were aged 15 and 16.

Mohammed Hafeez, defending, told the court that Tamor saw the police car and he "panicked" adding: "He made the foolish decision to speed away."

Now, as a result of his driving, he had lost his job after being employed in the security industry for four years having accepted the "standard of his driving was appalling".
