STOURBRIDGE has once again scored a gold gong for its efforts in the Heart of England in Bloom campaign.

The town was given top marks in the small city category of the campaign which is this year celebrating its 50th anniversary.

The glittering award, which was announced at a ceremony at Theatre Seven in Shrewsbury earlier today (Thursday September 11), is the town’s seventh consecutive gold accolade since it started taking part in the campaign around a decade ago.

Chairman of Heart of England in Bloom, Roger Bache, said: “Entrants give a lot of time and effort to make where they live and work a nicer, safer place to be and are very proud when they receive their prestigious awards.”

Judge Nicola Clarke visited the town on July 17 to take in Stourbridge’s highlights.

She was given a whistle-stop tour by Stourbridge in Bloom co-ordinator David Harcourt which included visits to the town centre and both Mary Stevens and Wollescote parks.

She also met and chatted with numerous community groups from across the town who have given a helping hand to this year’s Bloom campaign and said it had been a "real privilege" to see Stourbridge blossoming following completion of the long-awaited Tesco and Crown Centre redevelopment.
