GREEN-fingered volunteers have received a cash boost to help them breathe new life into a Brierley Hill community garden.

The £500 will be used to improve Hawbush Community Gardens and turn it into a place for local people to enjoy.

Taylor Wimpey, who are building the nearby Lockside Walk development, donated the cash which will pay for a large greenhouse, polytunnels and the provision of allotment spaces at the garden, located off Bull Street.

The garden is maintained by local residents with the help of environmental regeneration charity Groundwork West Midlands.

Carole Barratt, a Hawbush Community Gardens committee member, said: “It’s fantastic to have support from a local business to help improve this garden, which has so much potential, but has sadly become overgrown and neglected in recent years.

“Work has already begun on the project, and we would like to thank Taylor Wimpey for their generous donation to help make these improvements possible.”

Anne Wallace, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey Midlands, added: “As a local housebuilder, we are delighted to be able to help Hawbush Community Gardens become a beautiful place that everyone can enjoy.

“The revitalisation of this garden is a fantastic idea that will benefit so many local residents, and we are more than happy to be donating to this worthy cause.”
