THE parents of a premature Black Country baby are planning a big fundraising bash to celebrate her first birthday.

Daisy-Mae Little was born three and a half months early at Russells Hall Hospital on December 1, weighing just 1lb 13oz.

She was transferred to Wolverhampton's New Cross Hospital where her anxious parents Wayne and Jen spent six weeks living in one of its parent flats, watching her fight for her life.

The plucky Pensnett tot's condition continued to improve and she is now the picture of health.

Thousands of people across the world took Daisy-Mae into their hearts after reading Wayne's regular Facebook posts and his musings were recently turned into a book.

Generous publishers donated £1 from every copy of 'Little Daisy-Mae - The Girl Who Couldn't Wait', that was pre-ordered ahead of its release last month to help Wayne and Jen reach their goal of getting a copy in every neonatal unit in the UK.

Wayne said: "We managed to raise funds to get about 50 books. I think there are about 120 neonatal wards across the country so we are a little bit short but we can start distributing them locally."

The proud parents are now trying to raise £2,000 to help the parents of other premature babies through Daisy-Mae's birthday bash.

Cash will be spend improving facilities at New Cross' parent flats, explained Wayne: "The rooms have two single beds pushed together, basic bed sheets and a shared little kitchen room with just hot water making facilities.

“While we were there we brought a microwave and there was talk of another couple raising money for a small fridge.

"While you're there you are concerned about looking after your poorly child and it would be easier if the living conditions were better.

“We are looking to get some different beds and bedding, a fridge freezer and a washing machine to help other parents and anything that is left over we will put back into the neonatal units at Russells Hall and New Cross."

Well-wishers can help the couple meet their target by attending Daisy-Mae's party at The Blakelands Country House, Bobbington, from 7pm on December 6.

Guests will be treated to live music from Eastwood, with support from The Daisies and there will also be a raffle.

Tickets cost £10 and are available on first come, first serve basis via www.facebook.com/little.daisy.mae .
