BUSY Brook Primary School in Wordsley has paid a fitting tribute to its former much-loved chairman of governors Dana Newey who died a year ago at the age of 51.

A major phase of work has just been completed at the school costing more than £900,000 which has provided a much-needed new classroom, library, meeting room, cloakrooms, storage facilities and circulation space.

The new library has now been dedicated to Dana who was the school's chairman of the governors from September 2003 to April 2010.

Formerly known as PC Newey, Dana was also the local community police officer based at the school, since 1998, where she ran a police office before eventually going onto hold the role of police and education liaison officer.

Her husband John, along with children Jack and Sarah, officially opened the Dana Newey Library - named in recognition of all the work she did for the community throughout her career.

The library windows have been created using unique handmade coloured panes created by the schoolchildren with help from renowned glass artist Charlotte Martin who is based at the nearby Red House Glass Cone Cone.

Caretakers Lee Bowater and Nick Weston have also provided a seemingly impossible floor to ceiling book stack which has already proved a firm favourite with the children.
