A CHANCE meeting led to a Stourbridge jewellery designer bagging her first celebrity client.

Elizabeth Edge went to see indie rockers, The Wedding Present, perform at the River Rooms earlier this year and after the show, spotted lead singer David Gedge and his fiancee Jessica McMillan, standing by the merchandise.

Seizing her opportunity, the 34-year-old, who has been a fan of the band since the 90s, approached him for a chat.

She said: "We got talking and I mentioned I was a jewellery designer and it turned out that they were getting married soon. They said they were looking for a wedding ring for Jessica and would like to commission me to make one.

" Annoyingly, I didn't have a business card on me so had to write my details on an old receipt."

A few days later, the couple got in touch and Jessica trawled through Mrs Edge's unusual designs to find a style she wanted.

The chosen ring was from her unearthed range, which Mrs Edge said features pieces that look like they have a history.

She added: "She said she hadn't seen many wedding rings that she liked and really liked the unusual design and the fact that even though it was from the range I do, as I make every ring by hand myself, no two rings are ever the same." Mrs Edge then spent a week working on the ring at her studio in Old Wharf Road before meeting the happy couple at a tea room in Brighton to hand it over.

Thankfully, not only were the couple pleased with the finished product but the ring was the perfect fit.

Mrs Edge, of Parkfield Road, said: "I loved making the wedding ring for Jessica. They even sent me a photo from Paris where they got married in October of themselves with the Eiffel Tower in the background, with Jessica wearing the wedding ring I made."
