OLDER and vulnerable borough residents are set to benefit from cutting-edge technology to help them live in their homes for longer.
Telecare technology offers residents the chance to have a range of innovative monitors, including emergency contact and alarm buttons, fall sensors and flood detectors, installed in their homes.
The devices are connected to the council's round-the-clock emergency call and response service who will contact the appropriate people.
Dudley Council plans to fit more than 1,500 new alarms during 2006/07 across the borough.
Councillor Peter Miller, cabinet member for adult and community services, said: "Older people who may otherwise have to consider full-time residential care can now feel more secure at home, giving them the confidence and reassurance that help is at hand if they need it.
"It also provides peace of mind to their families and support for their carers."
