ADMINISTRATORS have been called in to a Lye based lens manufacturer which supplies opticians across the country after a period of tough trading conditions.

Gerald Smith and Ben Woolrych, partners at FRP Advisory, have been appointed as joint administrators to Oakhill Optical Laboratory Ltd, which makes ophthalmic lenses from its headquarters in Pedmore Road, after a period of tough trading conditions.

Oakhill, which supplies about 120 opticians across the UK - including Boots, has been trading for more than 30 years but the firm has been hit by tougher trading conditions.

And despite securing external investment last year, the business faced further cash flow problems into 2015.

The company will continue to trade as normal while FRP seeks a buyer and its 20-strong workforce has been retained.

Gerald Smith, partner and joint administrator at FRP Advisory, said: “Oakhill Optical has a strong history and a loyal customer base.

"We are continuing to trade the business from its premises in Lye to ensure we meet customer orders whilst actively marketing the business for sale. We encourage any interested parties to make early contact.”
