NEWLY-elected Dudley South MP Mike Wood used the first day in his constituency to visit the school where his bid for Parliament began.

Just a week into his new job, Conservative MP Mr Wood stopped off at The Kingswinford School on Friday May 15 together with Dudley Conservative leader – councillor Patrick Harley - and new Kingswinford North and Wall Heath councillor Nicola Richards, aged 20, who left the school just a few years ago.

Mr Wood and his colleagues were given a tour of the Water Street school and introduced to staff, students and governors.

They also looked in on science and drama lessons and checked out the new library and design and technology rooms and were treated to coffee and flapjacks in the vintage dining hall which is set to be rebuilt after a £1.6million was given to the school by the Department for Education.

Among the students they met was accomplished swimmer Alisha Stephenson who is set to represent the West Midlands at the National Schools Swimming Association in Sunderland.

Pupils Matthew Taylor, Kirsty Bridgwater, Jordan Bakewell, Adam Ancill, Oliver McHenry and Shaun Harrison also had chance to show off their Young Enterprise trophy and certificate.

Headteacher Bronwyn Hedley said: “We were delighted to welcome Mike Wood, Patrick Harley and Nicola Richards to our school. Their enthusiasm and support were infectious.”

Mr Wood said: "The Kingswinford School was where the process of becoming MP for Dudley South started with the public selecting me at the open primary. Therefore to join staff, governors and pupils on a tour of the facilities was the first event planned in my diary as the new MP.”

The MP will be holding his first advice surgery this Saturday (May 23) in Kingswinford for constituents in Dudley South to raise issues of concern.

Further surgeries will then be held on Friday June 12 in Wordsley and on Saturday June 20 in Netherton.
