CHILDREN from across Dudley borough have joined together at Wordsley Park to take part in a morning of 21st century cycling proficiency.

All of the children – aged 8-years-olds or under – took part in a mixture of the Bikeability Level 1 scheme and Learn to Ride.

The Bikeability scheme is designed to give the next generation the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on the country’s roads.

Level 1 is designed to help the children control their bikes before they move on to developing on-road skills at Level 2.

Wordsley Councillor Derrick Hemingsley, who is also chairman of the park’s friends group, said: “As chairman of Friends of Wordsley Park we were happy to have Bikeability back for a second successful year.

“With my campaigns in Wordsley around Speed Watch, safety of our children using their bikes was another link to my speed and safety focus in and around Wordsley.

“The Bikeability team will be back next year. “ The Learn to Ride instructors were from Dudley Council's Road Safety and Travel Awareness team.
