HOSPITAL bosses have apologised to a Netherton man who was ushered into a blood spattered cubicle during a visit to A&E.

Alex Chater went to Russells Hall Hospital on June 22 with a suspected broken hand and after a four hour wait was placed in a cubicle that he said looked “like a slaughter house”.

The 20-year-old said there were blood stains on the wall and blood “all over the bed”.

He said his partner asked the nurse if the blood was going to be cleaned up to which the she responded: "You do not have to be here."

Mr Chater said he was removed from the cubicle when he was caught taking photographs of the blood before being sent for x-ray.

Paula Clark, chief executive of the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust said the incident did not reflect the standards of cleanliness expected, adding: "We would like to apologise to Mr Chater for his experience in our Accident and Emergency Department.

"Cubicles should always be cleaned after every patient and we can only apologise that this did not happen during his visit to the department.

"The matron and clinical service lead for this area will be raising this issue with their teams to ensure it does not happen again."
