A STOURBRIDGE shopping centre is hosting a fundraising day this week in a bid to raise awareness for local animal charities.

The Ryemarket Shopping Centre is urging the Stourbridge public to attend its ‘animal day’, taking place this Friday (July 31), to discover more about the work the charities do.

Among the activities will be a cake sale in aid of Guide Dogs and Mad Science – who will host a bug and slime workshop together with displays and workshops by several other animal organisations including The Greyhound Rescue, Forest Dog Rescue and Bumbles disability dogs.

Children will get the chance to see the world through bugs eyes, as well as create mini robotic jitterbugs and get hands on with slug and snail slime.

Also as part of the event, Sam Griffiths, the manager of the centre’s Just4Pets store, is having 12 inches of her locks chopped off at noon.

Sam is donating her long hair to the Little Princess Trust which makes wigs for children who suffer hair loss because of cancer treatment.

The 39-year-old is also hoping shoppers at the event day will donate funds for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.
