WORK to create a new games and skate area for kids in Stevens Park, Quarry Bank, was this week set to get under way.
The park off Thorns Road is being transformed as part of the Government's Liveability scheme and follows consultation with the community on improvements they would most like to see.
The Friends of Stevens Park scooped £79,485 through the scheme and have already spent some of it on picnic benches and seats.
Current work, which is expected to be completed early next month, will see a multi-use games area created for basketball and football as well as ramps for skaters and BMX bikers.
Councillor Charles Fraser Macnamara, cabinet member for leisure and culture, said: "This new MUGA and skate ramps will be fabulous additions to the existing facilities at Stevens Park. I'm sure they will provide a lot of enjoyment for youngsters in the area for many years to come."
Dudley Council was one of just 27 authorities across the country picked to share a slice of £89 million through the Government's Liveability scheme.
Empowering people to become champions for their parks, the initiative has proved a huge success and there are now 26 Friends groups across the Dudley borough.
