A GROUP of big-hearted Pedmore schoolgirls raised more than £200 for Cancer Research UK when they hosted a charity bake sale.

Kiki Douglas and Sabina Jones, both aged 10, Hannah Burns, aged nine, and 11-year-olds Charlotte Burns and Megan Edwards thought up the idea to raise money for the charity and set about organising the event in Portland Drive on May 15.

Sabina's proud mum Gaby Jones said: "The girls worked really hard, making posters and posting flyers to advertise their event, as well as baking lots of cakes - and on the day they also served tea and coffee and held a raffle.

"The event was really well supported - and there was a really lovely community feel in the street, with everyone catching up over tea and cake."

Hannah and Charlotte's mum Katrina Burns said: "I feel very proud of them all and have been impressed at how they thought up the idea themselves, organised it without our help and all worked together to make it such a success."

The youngsters raised more than £210 with donations still coming in after the event. All proceeds will go to Cancer Research UK.
