VILLAGERS have breathed a sigh of relief after a group of travellers who had set up camp in Wollaston finally moved on.

A number of caravans with Irish number plates had been parked up outside the village hall in Bridgnorth Road for a week – much to the frustration of residents who had accused the travellers of playing loud music, hanging their washing out for all to see and leaving litter lying around.

A spokesman for Dudley Council said papers were served on Friday urging the group of around 15 people to vacate the site and a court date had been scheduled for Wednesday.

But the travellers have now reportedly already packed up and moved on.

Councillor Gaye Partridge, cabinet member for housing, said senior Dudley politicians would be looking to meet with police to review how such incidents are dealt with in the future after a spate of issues with travellers setting up camps in the borough over the last few weeks.
