RESPLENDENT Redmays in Stourbridge's Quarry Park Road has been attracting considerable interest from neighbours and passers-by being one of the few remaining thatched roof homes in the Dudley borough.
They have been able to watch Herefordshire based master-thatcher Tom Walden at work at the home of Roy and Jean Swift.
Roy said: "It's fascinating watching a real craftsman at work. They have to cut and trim water reeds imported from Turkey which have to be brought in by the bundle, which gives the roof its golden appearance.
"We only know of two other thatched roofs in Dudley, one of which is close by in Bromwich Lane and the other is in Oakham.
"There used to be another thatched home opposite, but that burnt down many years ago."
