STAR-bakers in Hagley whipped up their most show-stopping bakes for a lively afternoon of sweet treats and sunshine in aid of Mary Stevens Hospice.

The stakes were high at the Great Sanderson Court Bake Off as an esteemed panel of judges sampled each bake to decide who the crème de le crème of village bakers were.

Local resident, Susan Little, won the competition after baking a Raspberry Fruit Loaf which was a resounding favourite amongst the judges.

The panel were made up of Bromsgrove District Council chairman, Councillor Helen Jones, general manager at the Lyttleton Arms, Chris Cunningham, and Laura Millard, from Mary Stevens Hospice.

Susan went home with a meal for two at the Lyttleton Arms, whilst the runners up, Lyn Coller and Gwen Robottom, took home a Marks and Spencer goodies.

During the event at the McCarthy and Stone development, visitors were invited to try their luck in the charity raffle which raised more than £120 for the Stourbridge charity.

Robert Monkman, regional sales and marketing director for McCarthy and Stone, said: “The Great Sanderson Court Bake Off was an absolutely fantastic day, full of scrumptious treats and great fun, all in the name of a fantastic local charity.”

At the development this week will be Stourbridge based auctioneers, Fieldings Auctioneers, who will be hosting a valuation day on Thursday (August 4) of the town’s finest antiques.

The auctioneers will value everything from ceramics, glass and silver to jewellery and paintings and much more, to help punters put a cost to their most treasured possessions and finest family heirlooms.

Valuations will be available between 10.30am and 1pm, with a continental breakfast also available for guests to tuck into while they wait for their collectables to go under the scrutiny of the experts.

Mr Monkman added: “Our valuations morning at Sanderson Court will be a great way for our homeowners and guests to come along and get their favourite items evaluated by the experts.”
