DUDLEY South MP Mike Wood is spending this week promoting the work of volunteers within the local community.

Like many of his parliamentary counterparts, Mike has been busy volunteering and supporting those who give up many hours a week to help others who are less fortunate.

Yesterday (Monday, August 22), Mike helped out at Russells Hall Hospital and earlier in the day he visited Age UK at their Waterfront activity base.

The MP said: “At the hospital I completed the tea round which is always popular with patients and helped on meal times.

“Seeing first-hand the efforts of the 400 plus volunteers the hospital has really brings home to me the volunteer champions we have within our community.

“I’m doing this for a week but we have hundreds of community spirited people who do this week in week out.”

Today (August 23), Mike will be assisting at the Brierley Hill food bank, before spending tomorrow helping to prepare dinners at Miles Court again for Age UK.

Later in the week he will be accompanying local police on their patrols around the Dudley South constituency.

Mike added: “This will be an interesting and varied week for myself. Already I’ve seen from my day at the hospital that volunteers play such an important role supporting the trained professional’s within our local hospital.

“Add to that the volunteers for the food bank, Age UK and those dedicated individuals who volunteer to join the special constabulary, Dudley South is blessed with committed, dedicated people who care about their community.

“I hope my few days volunteering can raise some awareness and encourage others to join the small army of volunteers assisting our local community.”
