CHARITABLE darters will be playing around the clock as well as around the board as they host a 24-hour dart-a-thon.

Members of Beech Tree Social Club in Wollescote, more commonly known as Miners, will hope to win the battle with sleeplessness as they raise money for two causes this weekend.

From 2.30pm on Sunday (August 28), the Wassell Road club will host a number of events throughout the 24 hours as they raise money for the Georgina Ward, at Russells Hall Hospital, and The Christie National Cancer Research Centre.

The dart-a-thon, which will also feature live music, kicks off with a three-a-side, 701 knockout tournament costing £10 a team with the winners taking home £150.

Two established darters will then be putting down the gauntlet and challenging other doubles pairs to beat them, before club members and the public can step up to the oche throughout the remaining hours.

Adrian Wakeman, club secretary, said: “Anybody is welcome to come along and join in with everything that will be going on.

“To help raise money for the charities we will be having a raffle and other fundraising activities, while – weather permitting – there will be a bouncy castle outside.

“We are looking for as many teams as possible to enter the three-a-side tournament so come along and sign up before 2pm on the day, or give me a ring to reserve a place.”
