HAGLEY Scouts and Ramblers are hoping their annual bonfire event goes off with a bang with thousands of people expected to attend.

More than 3,000 visitors were wowed by last year’s event, with this year’s outing once again raising funds for a new scout hut.

The event will take place from 5.30pm on Saturday, November 5 in the field opposite Webbs Garden Centre, in Kidderminster Road South.

Among the entertainment will be the Jorvikr Viking re-enactment group, who will light the bonfire at 6.15pm, with the quiet fireworks starting at 7pm.

This will be followed by the group taking part in a battle in full Viking outfits before the main fireworks display.

Alison Akers, group treasurer, said: “We are all looking forward to this year’s bonfire night. We had over 3,300 people last year and it's very much a family event.

“Lord Cobham has once again very kindly allowed us to use the field for the event, where we will run our own barbecue selling meat from Paddocks, in Hagley, as well as hot and cold drinks including mulled wine and a cake stall of the highest ‘bake off’ standard.

“There will also be a sweet stall, popcorn, glow sticks and flashing swords, while East End foods are donating and serving vegetarian curry and rice as an alternative to a barbecue.”

Advance family tickets cost £15, adults £6 and children £4, and can be bought online at www.ticketsource.co.uk and searching for Hagley Scouts.

From Monday (October 24), tickets can also be bought from the village Spar store as well as Robinson and Sproson opticians.

The scouts group is also looking for local organisations who would like to join Cala Homes in sponsoring part of the event. More information is available from Alison by emailing hagleyramblerscout@btinternet.com or visiting www.hagleyramblers.com.
