STUDENTS at a Kingswinford school took part in a nationwide campaign on Friday (October 21) when they stood up to cancer.

Alongside staff, the Summerhill School pupils dressed in orange and made a real effort to attend school in costumes as part of the Stand Up To Cancer campaign, with burgers, pumpkins and tigers all making appearances.

All the students who participated in the school’s fundraising mufti day were required to donate to the worthwhile cause, with the total amount raised by students still to be counted.

Adrian Cresswell, associate headteacher, said: “We’re really pleased with the money we have raised, and incredibly proud of the students’ efforts.”

Broadcast live on Channel 4 on Friday evening, the Stand Up To Cancer telethon has so far raised £15,700,222 for translational research.
