A STOURBRIDGE chef has been named a winner in a national competition aimed at celebrating the best in Bangladeshi food.

Mohammed Monsur Ali, of multi-award winning Balti Bazaar in Lye, was voted one of nine winners in the Bangladesh Caterers Association Awards held at the Park Plaza Hotel in Westminster, London, on November 27 and hosted by Irish Celebrity Chef Rachel Allen and radio and TV host Raj Ghai.

Now in their 11th year, the awards recognise top restaurants and chefs across the UK who have mastered the art of Bangladesh cuisine.

Pasha Khandaker, BCA president, congratulated the winners and said: ‘It’s incredibly vital that we recognise and reward all the hard work and dedication that British Curry houses undertake all over the UK and provide the phenomenal growth and contribution to the British Curry Industry."

No stranger to awards - Balti Bazaar has won an array of accolades including the Stourbridge News Curry Awards.

The popular restaurant in Pedmore Road was also highly commended in the House of Commons Tiffin Cup 2012 after being put forward by Stourbridge MP Margot James and it has also previously made the shortlisted for the British Curry Awards.
