AN innovative project at a Stourbridge recording studio has helped launch the careers of a number of new bands.

Base Studio’s ‘Junction Project’ has provided groups of teenagers with two hours of rehearsal time for 24 weeks, free of charge.

One of the bands, Uncomplicated, have already signed up to be managed by community arts organisation Quench Arts.

The band, which as part of the project were also given the assistance of mentor Liam White, consists of five local teenagers, singer-songwriter Molly Butcher, guitarists Joel Tett and Dylan Evans, bass player Chris Hancox and drummer Connor Harvey.

During the project, the band had the opportunity to write and record their own song, Ghostly Images, while they also rehearsed and covered seven other songs which they then played at a gig at the Rufford Road-based studios.

John Harvey, grandfather of drummer Connor, said: “All of the young musicians have been given a fantastic opportunity with the Junction Project.

“On behalf of the band members and their parents, I want to express my gratitude to Quench Arts and Base Studios for their continuing support.”

Uncomplicated were joined at the Base Studios gig by two other new bands formed by the Junction Project, Age Gap and FemFatal, and existing local band Chawn Hill.
