GAME for a laugh bus drivers are gearing up for a charity five-a-side football match with a few surprises.

National Express bus driver Dave Gerrard has organised the match between male and female drivers which will take place at The Dell Stadium, Bryce Road, Pensnett, on Sunday April 2.

Money raised from the event, which kicks off at 3pm, will go to The Friends of Alfie Johnson which has been chosen as the National Express Community Partnership Charity of the Year.

Dave said: “The charity is solely committed to helping children with disabilities in Dudley and the Black Country area. Over the years they have helped many children and their families by purchasing specialist equipment to enhance the quality of their lives.”

He is now encouraging people to attend the game to help raise as much money as possible for the charity – which was initially set up to help disabled Stourbridge youngster Alfie Johnson, who suffered brain damage at birth due to a hospital blunder, but which now helps other children and their parents going through similar struggles.

Paul Johnson, from the Friends of Alfie Johnson charity, said: "We are overwhelmed that National Express has chosen us as the local charity they will be supporting this year. There are so many charities out there that deserve and need support, so to be chosen by such an established and well-known company like National Express is a true honour.

"Our charity need the support of companies like National Express to help our cause. The simple fact is the more money raised through events, such as the football match, the more children like Alfie we are able to help.

"The Friends of Alfie Johnson will be in attendance on April 2 cheering on the teams of National Express and I'm sure our lucky mascot will be making a guest appearance."

Admission to see the charity match is £2 on the day and free for children under 16. To find out more about the Friends of Alfie Johnson go to www.friendsofalfiejohnson.org.uk
