STUDENTS from a Stourbridge theatre school graced the West End stage this week, performing in front of a 1,100-strong audience.

On Sunday (March 12), members of Stagecoach Performing Arts Stourbridge performed a medley of show stoppers including hits from Spirit of Fosse at London’s famous Her Majesty’s Theatre.

The Haymarket-based theatre has hosted many famous musicals such as West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof and Phantom of the Opera, since it opened in 1986.

Stourbridge’s troupe fine-tuned their routine for several weeks over the spring term and joined 16 Stagecoach schools from across the country for their taste of West End stardom.

Catherine Needle, principal at Stagecoach Performing Arts Stourbridge, said: “It was brilliant to see the pupils perform in the West End.

“It’s an iconic theatre and was a fantastic opportunity for the students to show parents, friends and family the performance they had been working so hard on.”

Stourbridge’s group is part of a network of more than 600 part-time Stagecoach schools worldwide, which hold early stages classes for children aged four to six and main stages classes for six to 18-year-olds.
