VILLAGERS are once again gearing up for the annual Kinver Country Fayre which is set to take place this weekend.

Top equestrian display team, The Cavalry of Heroes, will be the star attraction at this year's family fun event which will be held on Father's Day - Sunday June 18.

Set to thrill, they will be performing two action-packed arena shows - one featuring Romans, knights and highwaymen and the other presenting a poignant tribute to horses of the First World War.

Andy Calloway, one of the fayre organisers, said: “The focus on World War I complements our Kinver 100 Years theme this year.

“We are celebrating the centenary of Kinver Edge and its famous Rock Houses coming into National Trust ownership, so 1917 was a significant year for Kinver.”

To mark the milestone anniversary - there will also be displays from the National Trust and an exhibition looking back at Kinver through the last century.

And the traditional parade, which gets underway at 11am in the High Street, will be themed around '100 Years of Transport' and will include more than 60 vehicles representing every decade since 1917.

The fayre, which has become a highlight of the village calendar, has in recent years attracted between 10,000 and 12,000 visitors.

Last year's event had to be postponed until September after heavy rain flooded the fields but the sun shone and the crowds still turned out in force on the rescheduled date.

This year organisers are keeping their fingers crossed for good weather and they hope the entertainment being laid on this time will attract more visitors than ever and raise plenty of money for village charities.

Attractions will include: falconry demonstrations, bands, a fun dog show and dog agility, dance displays ranging from swing to traditional Morris dancing and there will also be a wrestling ring hosting professional shows during the afternoon.

The live music tent will feature popular rockabilly band The Straight Aces and the 1940s trio The Bluebird Belles, who will be entertaining visitors to the nearby real ale and cider tent.

There will also be pony rides, donkeys, bouncy castles, sports games, facepainting, children's fancy dress, Shire and Clydesdale horses, fairground rides and animals from Dudley Zoo – plus dozens of stalls throughout the High Street and fields selling an array of handcrafted goods, food, Pimms and traditional teas.
