BBC WM breakfast presenter Alex Lester will kick off the station’s month-long summer tour of the West Midlands by broadcasting from a barge in Stourbridge tomorrow (Monday June 19).

The tour will see the radio station's favourite presenters getting out and about across the region, broadcasting from all manner of locations, and getting things underway first is WM presenter Alex Lester who will be broadcasting his entire breakfast show live 6am to 9am from a narrowboat on the Stourbridge Canal.

The journey will take him and his listeners from The Bonded Warehouse in Canal Street to Wordsley's Red House Glass Cone and back again.

And from 9am he will meet up with listeners and the local rambling club to do a walking tour of the area.

Alex, who joined the station in March this year, lived on a narrowboat for ten years at Hockley Port in Birmingham and has a big passion for canals.

He said: “I’m thrilled to be doing what I love – talking on radio – whilst touring my motherland in the West Midlands on my favourite kind of transport. There’s nothing quite as calming as a narrowboat ride and it’s the best way to see the beautiful parts of where we live."

BBC WM will also be broadcasting live from Pedmore Technology College in Stourbridge on Tuesday June 20 as part of the tour.

Popular presenters Sunny and Shay will be on air from 2pm until 4pm at the Grange Lane school where students will have chance to learn about radio broadcasting and maybe hit the airwaves themselves.

The station's summer tour will culminate in a Super Show on July 14 when all weekday programmes will be broadcast from different locations to celebrate Black Country Day.
