BRIERLEY Hill will be joining in Black Country Day festivities next month with its very own street fair.

The new Brier Fair will take place in the town centre from 9am – 5pm on Saturday July 22. It will be the first time the town has hosted a key celebration for the Black Country Festival.

As well as a funfair, there will also be a giant sandpit, arts and crafts activities, street entertainment, face-painting, market stalls and live music – and Black Country Radio will be broadcasting live throughout the day.

Steve Edwards, one of the organisers of the Black Country Festival, said: “Each year the Black Country Festival gets bigger and I’m delighted this event will be included for 2017 and hopefully beyond.”

Councillor Ian Kettle, Dudley’s cabinet member for planning and economic development, added: “We hope the Brier Fair becomes an established annual event, and I encourage everyone who attends to visit the local shops and buy local.”

Part of High Street will be closed to traffic on the day of the fair and buses will run to temporary bus stops. Free parking will be available all day at the Moor Shopping Centre.

The fair is being run with the support of Brierley Hill Community Forum, Asda, Euro Parking Services, The Black Country Festival, Black Country Radio, Brierley Hill Stakeholders Group, Brierley Hill town centre traders and Brierley Hill Indoor Market.

Events lined up during the month-long celebration of the region include a comedy night headlined by Ross Noble at Brierley Hill Civic on Friday July 14, carnivals in Stourbridge, Wordsley and Halesowen and several park and pub fun days.
