POLICE have confirmed they have discovered a suspected ‘chop shop’ at a unit in Lye.

Five men were arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft following a call from a tracker company regarding a stolen Range Rover.

Officers were alerted to the stolen vehicle at around 8.15pm on Tuesday (1 August) and traced the car to an industrial estate in Lye.

When officers arrived in Bagley Street, a suspected ‘chop shop’ was discovered at a unit which is believed to have been used to house parts of stolen vehicles.

A stolen BMW was also recovered from the premises.

Early investigations are underway and a number of other cars and parts, also thought to be stolen, are currently undergoing examination.

Detective Sergeant Leighton Shingles, from Force CID, said: "Enquiries are currently on-going but we are potentially looking at quite a large-scale operation."

All five men, aged between 23 and 40 and all from the local area, were released pending further investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to speak to DS Shingles or a member of his team by calling police on 101.
