AN eyesore building in Kingswinford will be knocked down to create affordable housing.

The Dudley Council owned building in Beech Road, which consists of six shop units and maisonettes, will be turned into 16 one and two bedroom flats to meet the area's demand for social housing.

There will also be 21 parking spaces - 16 for residents and five for visitors.

Dudley planners approved the application at a meeting of the council's Development Control Committee yesterday (Tuesday, August 15).

Councillor Andrea Goddard, committee chairman, said: "I think this is a fantastic application, the site is a mess at the moment.

"We are in desperate need of affordable homes, so this is the perfect opportunity to make 16 flats for people who have not got the money to rent privately."
